Anitha Kannan is the Director, Research Platform Data Strategy in the Office of the Senior Vice-Provost and Vice-Provost (Research), Monash University. Anitha’s role is to drive the data strategy for the Monash Technology Research Platforms to support the research priorities and aspirations of the University. Her responsibilities include establishing and delivering a comprehensive data strategy to enable the University to realise the full potential of its cutting-edge research infrastructure; leading the development and implementation of strategies to address computational data challenges faced by the platforms; establishing effective technologies and processes to manage the data generated and accelerate platform technology pipelines through data collaborations; establishing networks and relationships with stakeholders in industry and government; and representing the University in think tanks on data research.
She is also the interim Director of Helix, Monash University's health data facility that provides Monash University health researchers and their collaborators cutting-edge secure research infrastructure and expertise to accelerate research across the health data pipeline, including, data management, data linkage, analysis, reporting, informatics and training. Anitha played a key role in the establishment of Helix, which underpins over $80M of health research. Anitha is also leading the development of Monash University’s Research Data Protection and Privacy Roadmap.
Anitha is on the Research & Technology Advisory Committee of the Australian Research Data Commons (ARDC), an NCRIS capability. The Committee provides independent advice to the CEO relating to longer term national eResearch infrastructure requirements and the efficacy of current programs.
Anitha has a Bachelor of Engineering in Electronics and Communications. She has over 8 years of leadership experience in a digital-focused University environment, with a focus on research infrastructure, capacity and capability; backed by 20 years of experience in the information technology industry.
